- 2026 Uganda Premier League | MD6 | Wednesday October 14th
- Kigezi Homeboyz FC 0-2 NEC FC
NEC FC returned to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Kigezi Homeboyz at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge on Wednesday to maintain their push at the top of the Uganda Premier League.
The Lugogo-based side bounced back from a goalless draw against Express FC in their previous outing, with Allan Mugalu and Marvin Oshaba scoring in either half to secure all three points.
NEC had to work for the breakthrough as Kigezi Homeboyz initially defended well and looked to trouble the visitors on the counterattack.
Timothy Beinomugisha picked out Kemis Rwothomio with a neat through pass in the 15th minute, but the resulting effort failed to trouble NEC goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo.
NEC gradually found their rhythm and broke the deadlock in the 35th minute. Musa Ibrahim delivered a corner, and Mugalu met it with a powerful header to give the visitors the lead.
The hosts struggled to respond before the break, with NEC taking a 1-0 lead into half-time. Richard Basangwa was booked before the interval as the contest grew increasingly physical.
NEC made a double substitution at the start of the second half, introducing Oshaba and Enock Tumwesigye for Fahad Bayo and Enrique Lubwama as they sought to strengthen their attacking threat.
Kigezi attempted to fight back, but NEC remained organised at the back. In the 65th minute, Warren Buule delivered a teasing ball into the area, where James Tukei’s effort was comfortably dealt with by Ssebwalunyo.
Two minutes later, NEC doubled their advantage. Basangwa turned provider, setting up Oshaba to finish and put the visitors firmly in control at 2-0.
The goal effectively settled the contest, leaving Kigezi with too much to do in the closing stages.
NEC subsequently introduced Pius Obuya and Ronald Media for Basangwa and Mugalu, respectively, as they managed the closing minutes. Kigezi also made changes in search of a way back, but NEC held firm through three minutes of added time.
Ssebwalunyo’s assured performance earned him the Man of the Match award as NEC recorded a clean sheet away from home.
The victory keeps NEC second in the standings on 14 points, level with leaders SC Villa, while Kigezi Homeboyz remain bottom with just one point.
NEC will next visit BUL FC in Njeru on October 21, while Kigezi Homeboyz host Entebbe UPPC at Rwamwanja the following day.
Elsewhere, SC Villa produced the day’s biggest result, thrashing Police FC 6-1 at Police Arena in Kira.
Ibrahim Kasinde opened the scoring in the eighth minute before John Asiimwe doubled Villa’s lead five minutes later, finishing Frank Ssebuufu’s assist.
Ssebuufu made it 3-0 just before half-time from Isaac Mpagi’s delivery, and Patrick Jonah Kakande added a fourth three minutes after the restart.
Ssebuufu completed his brace in the 58th minute, with Kasinde providing the assist, before Jonathan Sausa struck Villa’s sixth in the 83rd minute.
Police managed a consolation through Bedia Djuma Ikamba in the 82nd minute, but it did little to soften the scale of their defeat.
