One of the most popular off-season activities for many basketball players and fans is pick-up basketball. Over the years, many enthusiasts of the sport have been organising pick-up tournaments and adding entertainment to make them more appealing.
Over the past six years, none has been more consistently organised than the KT Rach Women’s Basketball Tournament, with four editions already.

For Rachael Kuliva, the proprietor of KT Rach Ladies Basketball Tournament, the enthusiasm goes beyond just the sport and entertainment, but extends to education.
With every edition, there has been an element of education primarily targeted at engaging women. Last year’s tournament was geared towards empowering sportswomen through financial literacy.

The fifth edition, scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 25 at Lugogo Indoor Stadium, is still founded on education with elements of entertainment but has been specifically crafted for secondary school girls.
For the last few weeks, the organisers, in partnership with Women’s National Basketball League side KCCA Leopards, have visited some of the participating schools, skilling the girls and passing on the core message of personal hygiene.
Fourteen schools, including St Noa Girls and St Cyprian High School Kyabakadde, are set to compete in the one-day event.

Meanwhile, finalists from the 4th Edition -Team Siima and Team Park- will face off again to spice up the event. The two teams boast some National Basketball League talent, which will make the game a perfect exhibition of women’s basketball for the young girls.
