Result: Kataka 0-5 Vipers

Vipers SC returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion after thrashing Kataka FC 5-0 in the Uganda Premier League at Bukedea Comprehensive Complex on Thursday.

Usama Arafat scored a hat-trick, while Farouk Miya and Milton Karisa also found the net as the Venoms cruised to a comfortable victory on the road.

Vipers headed into the encounter following a 1-1 draw against Maroons, a result that left the Kitende-based side eager to bounce back with maximum points.

The visitors started on the front foot, searching for an early breakthrough, but Kataka’s defence initially stood firm.

However, Vipers broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Usama finished from close range after Kataka failed to deal with Tarabina’s long throw-in.

Kataka made a double change in the 30th minute, introducing goalkeeper Chris Ronald Nsubuga and Solomon Okello in an attempt to steady the side.

Vipers doubled their advantage six minutes into the second half, with Usama completing a move initiated by Gusto Mulongo to put the visitors firmly in control.

The forward completed his hat-trick in the 54th minute after Marvin Youngman was fouled inside the penalty area. Usama stepped up and calmly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot.

Vipers continued to dominate and added a fourth goal in the 76th minute. Miya made a good run, rounded the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into an empty net.

Milton Karisa put the icing on the cake in added time, finishing off a spectacular assist from Miya to complete the rout.

Kataka had a chance to grab a consolation goal in the closing stages after Tarabina fouled Ali Sentamu inside the penalty area. However, the hosts failed to convert the resulting spot-kick.

The victory lifts Vipers to fourth place on the table with 10 points from five matches, while Kataka remain 17th with two points from six games.
