- Uganda A 118 all out in 33.2 Overs
- Jersey 121/1 in 27.1 OversÂ
- Jersey won by 9 Wickets
Jersey made a winning start to their tour of Uganda, beating Uganda A by nine wickets in the opening match at Entebbe Cricket Oval on Saturday.
The visitors won the toss and opted to bowl first and did not hesitate to bowl out Uganda A for 118 in 33.2 overs before chasing down the target with nine wickets in hand, reaching 121 in 27.1 overs in a match reduced to 37 overs per side.
Harrison Carlyon and Josh Lawrenson led the chase with half-centuries, making Uganda pay for their failure to build a competitive total.
Carlyon struck 59 off 78 balls, hitting eight fours and a six, while Lawrenson finished unbeaten on 52 off 71 balls, including three fours. William Perchard added an unbeaten five as Jersey completed the chase comfortably.
The pair had put Jersey in a strong position before Carlyon was caught by Paul Mulongo off Edwin Nuwagaba at 101 in the 23rd over. However, Lawrenson ensured there would be no late drama, guiding the visitors to victory alongside Perchard.
Earlier, Jersey’s bowlers had done most of the damage, with Benjamin Ward taking three wickets for 20 runs in eight overs. Lawrenson claimed two for 17, while Scott Van Breda also took two wickets, conceding 22 runs.
Carlyon chipped in with one wicket for nine runs in five overs, while Toby Britton and Julius Sumerauer took one wicket each. Sumerauer finished with figures of one for 10 in 4.2 overs.
Uganda struggled to find momentum from the start. Fahad Mutagana and Ronald Lutaaya put on 38 runs for the opening wicket, but Mutagana fell for 15 off 28 balls, dismissed by Van Breda.
Lutaaya followed for 16 off 29 balls, leaving Uganda at 43 for two. Brian Asaba managed six before falling to Carlyon, with the hosts slipping to 57 for three.
Wabwose briefly offered hope with 22 off 34 balls, including two fours, but Ward dismissed him at 79 before removing Paul Mulongo for a duck in the next over.
Ward then accounted for Robert Owilli, who made seven off 24 balls, as Uganda slumped to 80 for six.
Edwin Nuwagaba scored 10 before falling to Lawrenson, who also dismissed Bilal Hassan for seven. Hassan’s 30-ball stay yielded little as Uganda struggled to keep the scoreboard moving.
Richard Agamire added some late runs with 17 off 17 balls, including a four, but his dismissal at 118 left Uganda on the brink. Ivan Baidhu was then dismissed for a duck by Sumerauer, while Gurjivan Singh remained unbeaten without scoring.
Uganda’s innings ended at 118 in 33.2 overs, with 18 extras, including 12 wides and four no-balls, contributing to the total.
Despite the defeat, Uganda will have little time to dwell on the result, with the two sides scheduled to meet again on Sunday. The hosts will need a stronger batting display and better partnerships if they are to level the series.
The opening match was played on Saturday, October 17, 2026, meaning the return fixture is scheduled for Sunday, October 18, 2026, ahead of their Challenge League A third-round tournament in Kenya.
