Fred Amaku celebrates

2026/27 Uganda Premier League:

  • Maroons 4-1 Kataka

It remains a baptism of fire for newly promoted Uganda Premier League debutants Kataka Football Club.

The Mbale city based entity suffered their 5th defeat in 7 outings when they lost 1-4 to Maroons at the Muteesa II Wankulukuku stadium on Tuesday, 20th October 2026.

Stylish midfielder Abel Michael Eturude, forward Fred Amaku as well as second half substitutes Darious Ojok and Jackson Nunda condemned the “Lufumbi” to another misery since attaining promotion in the top flight.

Latif Senkubuge pulled back a goal deep in added time to give the score line a respectable second look.

Maroons commenced the game brilliantly under the glowing sun when Amaku shot over inside the goal area with the left foot after 9 minutes.

Two minutes later, Baden Mujahid Ogama was denied from an acute angle on the right by goalkeeper Solomon Okello.

Eturude broke the deadlock with a headed finish at the back post after Emmanuel Obua’s long throw-in on 19 minutes.

Kataka’s left back Abdu Tumwine became the first player to be booked  in the game on 26 minutes following a foul on Ogama.

The visitors’ real first threat at the opposition arrived on the half hour mark when Isaac Owinyi’s free-kick curled over from 30 yards.

Kataka called for two  first half changes after 37 minutes with Brazilian Jose Denilson coming off for Samuel Watuwa and Ivan Bwanika taking over right back Samuel Nangosya.

Jamadah Mulimira shot over in the 36th minute, in what seemed the best chance for the Lufumbi before Tumwine curled a free-kick wide of the Maroons’ goal frame.

Kataka survived conceding a penalty when goalkeeper Okello seemed to have tugged down Amaku in the forbidden area as Maroons led 1-0 by the mandatory break.

Amaku made it two with a decent finish in the 52minute.

Jose Dedilson Gomez was replaced by Martin Wambi for Kataka’s third change.

Brian Nkuubi Ssemakula came on for Ronald Orombi in Maroons’ first change of the game.

With twenty minutes to play; Kataka called for a double change.

Francis Oketa Yot Ayella and George Okwakol replaced the weary legs of Michael Olinga and Marko Teny respectively.

Nkuubi attempted from distance but the effort flew off target.

In the 72nd minute, Jackson Nunda came in for Eturude and Darious Ojok coming in for Dickson Niwamanya.

Ojok need five minutes to register his name among the scorers on the sunny evening with a clinical finish past the advancing goalkeeper Okello to make it three for the 1968/69 Uganda Premier League champions.

It would have been four for the hosts but Jackson Nunda’s cheeky loop from 20 yards kissed the crossbar and sailed out of play.

Nunda eventually scored with a wonder left footed shot from 30 yards, a sweet deft effort that sealed their victory.

With five minutes to play, Maroons made a double substitution.

Ronald Andabati Mawa and Muwadda Mawejje were introduced for Baden Mujahid Ogama and Fred Amaku.

This is Maroons’ third victory in 7 games which puts them to 10 points as they climb to 6th on the 18 team log.

Kataka is yet to record any victory having suffered their 5th defeat, remaining with just two points from 7 games.
