Overview:
The FA stated that the decision to withdraw the approval was made in accordance with the 2026 FUFA Men’s Club Licensing Regulations, which provide for further inspections and the withdrawal of a licence when the conditions for its issuance are no longer satisfied.
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has revoked approval for the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo to host night matches with immediate effect.
This follows the failure of floodlights last week as KCCA took UPDF in the premier league on Thursday.
According to the Sports Nation website, FUFA Deputy CEO Ronah Sheba Ampaire addressed a letter to KCCA through their CEO Anisha Muhoozi stating that the conditions under which the stadium was approved to host night matches were no longer being met.
FUFA had granted the stadium approval to host matches under floodlights in a letter dated September 22, 2026 after earlier denying them opportunity citing the lighting didn’t meet the required standards.
The FA stated that the decision to withdraw the approval was made in accordance with the 2026 FUFA Men’s Club Licensing Regulations, which provide for further inspections and the withdrawal of a licence when the conditions for its issuance are no longer satisfied.
The approval will remain suspended until corrective measures are implemented, a fresh inspection is conducted and FUFA issues written clearance.
As a result, all fixtures that were scheduled to be played under floodlights at MTN Omondi Stadium will now kick off at 4:00 p.m.
KCCA FC has been directed to liaise with the Uganda Premier League Secretariat regarding the affected fixtures.
Already, KCCA and NEC who also use the stadium had announced the upcoming fixtures against Lugazi and Ntugasaze respectively as night matches but the former has confirmed adjustments already.
KCCA – UPDF abandoned clash awaits decision
Meanwhile, FUFA through their judicial body the FJC are yet to make a pronouncement on the abandoned clash that only lasted eight minutes.
One of three outcomes expected; a replay from the start, kick off at the 9th minute or a forfeiture by the host club.
But one constant is that there could be sanctions on the Lugogo based club in terms of fines whichever is the decision.
