The final slot at the CAF Women’s Champions League has been confirmed on Thursday with Ampem Darkoa Ladies from Ghana edging Nigeria’s Edo Queens in a rescheduled game.
It should be noted that this game (A WAFU-B) final had ended with Edo Queens winning on penalties after normal time had ended in a 2-2 draw, but Ampem Darkoa lodged a petition to CAF on grounds of technicalities.
According to WAFU-B competition rules, in case of a draw at the end of normal time, extra time had to be played, a thing which was not done and thus CAF had to order a replay.
In the replay staged today in Cairo, Egypt, play resumed with extra time of 30 minutes, and it was the Ghanaian side that edged the contest, courtesy of Afishata Mohammed’s goal.
Ampem Darkoa therefore join Group B where they will face defending Champions AS FAR from Morocco, USFAS Bamako of Mali and Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim.
The CAF Champions League will take place in Cairo, Egypt, from 1st to 15th November.
