- Mbarara City FC 1-3 KCCA FC
Charles Lwanga and Sammy Ssebaduka scored again as KCCA FC continued their winning run with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Mbarara City FC at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge on Saturday.
The two were on target in KCCA ‘s 2-1 comeback against Lugazi on Wednesday at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
The result was KCCA’s fifth consecutive league victory, another sign of the progress the Kasasiro Boys are making after a difficult start to the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season.
KCCA wasted little time announcing their intentions. Charles Lwanga rattled the woodwork in the opening minutes before Saidi Mayanja reacted quickest to the rebound, only to be brought down inside the penalty area.
Ivan Ahimbisibwe stepped up and converted from the spot in the 12th minute to give the visitors an early advantage.
Mbarara City were not prepared to surrender their home ground without a fight. After spending much of the opening period trying to contain KCCA, the hosts gradually worked their way into the game and found an equaliser in the 28th minute.
Ronald Odwok finished from close range after Abdul Bironse picked him out, bringing the score to 1-1.
Mbarara made their first change in the 30th minute, introducing Reagan Matege for Bironse as both sides became more cautious.
KCCA continued to look for openings, with Ssebaduka sending in a dangerous cross that Ahimbisibwe controlled before setting up Mayanja. However, Mayanja sent his effort over the crossbar as Mbarara’s defence stood firm.
The visitors eventually broke through again just before halftime. A long throw-in from Fillbert Obenchan caused confusion in the Mbarara penalty area, allowing Ssebaduka to rise above the defenders and head home in the 43rd minute.
It was an important goal for KCCA, who went into the break leading 2-1 after two minutes of added time.
Mbarara came out with renewed determination in the second half and almost drew level in the 50th minute. Muhammad Kanyike threatened from close range, but goalkeeper Mugolofa produced a fine fingertip save to keep KCCA in front.
KCCA responded with a double change in the 58th minute, bringing on Ibrahim Kasule and Shafik Kwikiriza for Saidi Mayanja and Ivan Ahimbisibwe.
Rain began falling at Rwamwanja as the contest entered its final half-hour, with Mbarara making further changes in search of a way back.
Brian Aheebwa and Thomas Kakaire replaced Fredrick Ayebare and Gadaffi Kacancu in the 67th minute.
KCCA then had an opportunity to put the game beyond Mbarara when they were awarded another penalty. However, goalkeeper Bashir Bravo came to the hosts’ rescue, saving the spot kick and briefly keeping their hopes alive.
But KCCA would not be denied for long. In the 71st minute, Herbert Achayi delivered a corner kick into the danger area, where Lwanga rose to head home KCCA’s third goal and effectively settle the contest.
With a two-goal cushion, KCCA managed the closing stages without allowing Mbarara a way back into the game.
The hosts introduced Clinton Davico Kamugisha and Sadat Nsubuga for Ivan Bogere and Muhammad Kanyike in the 80th minute, while KCCA responded with further changes. Emmanuel Anyama replaced Ashraf Mugume, Yunus Sibira came on for Lwanga, and James Mubezi later replaced Ssebaduka in the 86th minute.
Three minutes of added time followed before the final whistle confirmed a valuable away victory for KCCA.
Ssebaduka was named Man of the Match after his influential display, which included the crucial second goal that restored KCCA’s lead before halftime.
The victory leaves KCCA fifth on the league table with 16 points, while Mbarara City remain 12th with eight points.
KCCA now turn their attention to a November 3 home encounter against Maroons FC at the Phillip Omondi Stadium. Mbarara, meanwhile, will travel to face Kigezi HomeBoyz on November 6.
Elsewhere, Kitara FC edged UPDF FC 1-0 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, with Benjamin Nyakoojo scoring the only goal in the 13th minute after being set up by Jeromy Kirya.
In Bukedea, NEC FC defeated Blacks Power FC through an Aziz Bayo strike, assisted by left-back Hakim Wandera.
At the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, BUL FC and Entebbe UPPC FC shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Alex Kitata scored for BUL before in-form UPPC forward Reich Triomphe Kokolo restored parity.
The day’s programme was scheduled to conclude with URA FC hosting Vipers SC at Hamz Stadium in an 8 pm kick-off.
