Uganda’s representatives at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League, Kawempe Muslim Ladies, announced their arrival on the continental scene in style, defeating defending Champions AS FAR from Morocco.
In a thrilling Group B game played at the Suez Canal Stadium in Cairo, Egypt, the Valley Warriors stunned AS FAR Rabat to win 3-2.
Agnes Nabukenya bagged a brace, including a stoppage-time winner, while captain Shakirah Nyinagahirwa got the other goal for the Valley Warriors.
AS FAR took an early lead through Fatima Tagnaout, whose ferocious left-footed drive caught goalkeeper Josephine Nambuya off guard in the sixth minute.
However, Kawempe Muslim returned a changed team after the break and took the Moroccan by surprise, scoring goal after goal.
First, it was Nabukenya who drew the game level in the 53rd minute. A low drive from distance caught AS FAR’s goalkeeper off guard and went into the bottom left corner.
Five minutes later, captain Nyinaghirwa burst into the box and fired with power at the near post to put the Valley Warriors into the lead.
AS FAR were however able to level matters in the 69th minute through Doha El Madani, who converted from the spot.
With the game destined for the end, Nabukenya grabbed the winner when Latifa Nakasi threaded her through on goal, and the former put the ball beyond the goalkeeper.
Victory means Kawempe Muslim take an early lead in Group B ahead of AS FAR, Ampem Darkoa of Ghana and USFAS Bamako from Mali, who face off in the other game today.
The Valley Warriors will return to action on Thursday against Ampem Darkoa before wrapping up group business against USFAS Bamako on Sunday.
