BUL FC brought SC Villa’s unbeaten run to an end with a hard-fought 2-1 victory in the Uganda Premier League encounter at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, on Tuesday.

Both sides headed into the contest unbeaten, but the Oil Manufacturers emerged as the only team standing after an entertaining encounter.

BUL started brightly, with Swabir Mpasa delivering a well-taken corner that Derrick Byabazaire narrowly headed wide.

Moments later, SC Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago was called into action, rushing off his line to palm away Achidi’s delivery from the right flank.

In the 15th minute, Achidi thrilled the home crowd with some impressive dribbling in midfield as BUL continued to threaten.

At the other end, Lukwago’s quick restart found John Asiimwe, who was fouled in the penalty area. Asiimwe stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick, but Wokorach produced an excellent save to keep the scores level.

BUL eventually broke the deadlock in the 25th minute through Alex Kitata, who calmly finished off a fine delivery from Mpasa after the latter had worked his way through a crowded area.

Three minutes later, Richard Okello tested Lukwago with a long-range effort. The goalkeeper spilt the ball, but Byabazaire was unable to capitalise on the rebound.

The hosts doubled their advantage when Byabazaire connected with Wokorach’s goal kick, firing home a first-time half-volley after making a well-timed run.

SC Villa pulled one back in the 68th minute through Tonny Asiku, whose powerful effort caught Wokorach off guard as the goalkeeper allowed the ball to slip through his hands.

The visitors pushed forward in search of an equaliser in the closing stages, throwing everything at BUL, but the hosts remained resolute defensively to see out an important victory.

The result takes BUL to the top of the Uganda Premier League table with 23 points from nine matches, while SC Villa drop to third with 21 points after playing a game more.
