Uganda’s representatives in the CAF Women’s Champions League, Kawempe Muslim, suffered a narrow defeat to Ampem Darkoa on Thursday.

In a closely contested Group B game at the Suez Canal Stadium, the Valley Warriors fell 2-1.

Nancy Amoh fired the Ghanaian outfit into the lead just nine minutes after kickoff, capitalising on a goalkeeping howler by Josephine Nambuya.

The goalkeeper fumbled with the initial ball and spilt it in the path of Amoh, who made no mistake to find the back of the net.

Kawempe were able to level matters in the 33rd minute through forward Shadia Nabirye, who fired into an empty net.

A long cross from Samalie Nakacwa was missed by Latifa Nakasi, and this confused the goalkeeper, who had moved to close in, only for the ball to find Nabirye unmarked at the far post, and she was able to convert.

Another blunder by Kawempe’s goalkeeper once again gifted Ampem Darkoa, this time in the 83rd minute when she failed to parry the cross away, only to give the ball to Beline Nyarkoh, who drilled home.

Victory puts Ampem Darkoa in a strong position to qualify for the semifinals and will need only a point in their final group game against ASFAR on Sunday.

The Moroccan giants won 6-0 against USFAS Bamako in their second group game to recover from their shocking 3-2 defeat to Kawempe Muslim.

Kawempe Muslim must now get a good result against USFAS Bamako from Mali on Sunday to progress to the last four.
