Ugandan champions Namuwongo Blazers have discovered their opponents for the Road To BAL 2017 Elite 16 East Division after being drawn in Group B.
The Blazers will face Tanzania’s Dar City, Botswana’s Dolphins BC and Mozambique’s Ferroviario da Beira in a competitive group as they seek to secure a place in the BAL 2027 season.
The draw places the Ugandan side in a potentially challenging group, with Dar City emerging as the biggest threat to their ambitions, while Beira also presents a formidable challenge, having played at the BAL.
Nam Blazers head into the Elite 16 having finished second in the Road to BAL East Division qualifiers behind Burundi’s Urunani BC.
The two-time National Basketball League champions demonstrated their quality during the preliminary stage, winning three of their four group games to secure qualification for the next round.
However, the Elite 16 presents a different level of competition, with the margin for error expected to be considerably smaller as teams battle for qualification to the continental competition.
Dar City will arguably be the side to watch in Group B, given their status as Tanzania’s representatives and their ambitions of reaching the BAL again.
Mozambique’s Ferroviario are another opponent the Blazers cannot afford to underestimate, considering the country’s established basketball pedigree and the club’s experience on the continental stage.
Botswana’s Dolphins BC complete the group and will also be eager to upset the odds, making the assignment even more demanding for the Ugandan champions.
Elsewhere, Group A comprises Nairobi City Thunder (Kenya), Patriots BC (South Sudan), Munali Suns (Zambia) and Urunani BC (Burundi).
For Nam Blazers, the immediate task will be to navigate a difficult group and maintain the momentum built during the East Division qualifiers.
Having fallen short of topping their preliminary group, the Ugandan champions will be keen to make a stronger statement at the Elite 16, where a place in the BAL 2027 season is at stake.
