Immaculate Nakisuyi and Ritah Musamali celebrate a wicket

The 2026 Victoria Series got off to an exciting start on Friday, November 6, with Uganda and Rwanda registering victories on an opening day that belonged largely to the bowlers at Entebbe Cricket Oval.

Uganda edged Namibia by four wickets in the morning encounter before Rwanda defeated the USA by 14 runs in the afternoon, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting series.

While the batters had their moments, particularly Uganda’s Rita Musamali, the bowlers were the real architects of the day’s action, producing disciplined spells and crucial breakthroughs across both fixtures.

Musamali anchors Uganda’s four-wicket victory

Uganda began their campaign on a winning note, chasing down Namibia’s modest total of 73/9 in 19.3 overs to finish on 74/6 and secure a four-wicket victory.

The chase was not without its nervous moments, as Namibia’s Wilka Mwatile ripped through Uganda’s top order with a brilliant opening spell.

Janet Mbabazi, Stephanie Nampiina and Proscovia Alako all fell cheaply, leaving Uganda in need of a steady hand.

That responsibility fell to Rita Musamali, who delivered the innings of the morning. The experienced batter struck an unbeaten 42 off 55 deliveries, including four boundaries, providing the stability Uganda desperately needed, while Malisa Ariokot remained unbeaten on six as Uganda eventually crossed the line.

For Namibia, Mwatile was outstanding with the ball, claiming 3/9 in four overs. Eveleen Kejarukua added 2/12, while Mekelaye Mwatile picked up one wicket.

Earlier, Namibia struggled to build meaningful partnerships after Uganda elected to field.

Suné Wittmann and Merzerly Gorases both scored 11, while Naomi Benjamin’s 20 was the highest individual contribution in Namibia’s innings.

Uganda’s bowling attack shared the responsibility impressively. Malisa Ariokot claimed 3/9, matching Mwatile’s figures, while Consylate Aweko Nimungu took 2/20, and Janet Mbabazi and Immaculate Nakisuuyi picked up a wicket apiece.

Rwanda hold their nerve against USA

The afternoon fixture produced a more competitive contest, with Rwanda defending 100/8 to defeat the USA by 14 runs.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Rwanda put together a total built around contributions from several players rather than one dominant innings.

Clarisse Umuntoniwase top-scored with 17 off 27 balls, while Gisele Ishimwe made 16 off 14 deliveries. Alice Ikuzwe also contributed 16 off just 11 balls, providing some late impetus.

Fanny Utagushimaninde added 15, while Shakila Niyomuhoza chipped in with 11 as Rwanda reached 100/8 in their 20 overs.

The USA bowling attack had its moments, with Aditiba Indrajitsinh Chudasama taking 3/20 and Taranum Chopra claiming 2/10. Sainavi Kambalapalli and Ritu Priya Singh also took a wicket each.

In reply, the USA struggled to establish momentum against a disciplined Rwandan attack.

Isani Mahesh Vaghela top-scored with 18 off 26 balls, while Taranum Chopra made a brisk 16 off 15 deliveries. Maahi Madhavan provided a late spark with 15 off just eight balls, striking a boundary and a six.

However, Rwanda’s Alice Ikuzwe was the difference-maker with the ball. She claimed 3/14 in 3.2 overs, while the skipper Diane Marie Bimenyimana and Ruth Uwimana picked up two wickets apiece.

The USA were eventually dismissed for 86 in 19.2 overs, handing Rwanda a deserved 14-run victory.

Day One Player Rankings: Who owned the crease?

With four teams in action and several individual performances worth celebrating, the opening day produced a healthy mix of batting resilience, bowling precision and match-winning contributions.

Based on runs scored, wickets taken, economy, strike rates and overall influence on the results, these were the standout performers.

Top batting performances

1. Rita Musamali (Uganda) – 9.5/10

The standout batter of the day. Her unbeaten 42 off 55 balls was the backbone of Uganda’s successful chase. She showed composure when wickets were falling and ensured Uganda did not lose their grip on the target.

2. Naomi Benjamin (Namibia) – 8.0/10

Her 20 off 33 deliveries was Namibia’s highest score. Although her innings came in a losing cause, she provided an important contribution in a difficult batting display.

3. Maahi Madhavan (USA) – 8.0/10

A lively 15 off just eight deliveries, including a four and a six, gave the USA some late momentum. Her strike rate of 187.50 was the highest among the day’s notable batting contributions.

4. Alice Ikuzwe (Rwanda) – 8.5/10

Her 16 off 11 balls came at a strike rate of 145.45 and helped Rwanda finish with a competitive total. A valuable contribution from a player who would later make an even bigger impact with the ball.

5. Isani Mahesh Vaghela (USA) – 7.5/10

Her 18 off 26 balls was the highest score for the USA. She attempted to provide stability during a difficult chase but lacked sufficient support from the other end.

6. Clarisse Umuntoniwase (Rwanda) – 7.5/10

Her 17 off 27 deliveries helped Rwanda negotiate the middle overs and build a platform for their total.

7. Gisele Ishimwe (Rwanda) – 7.5/10

She scored 16 off 14 balls, giving Rwanda a positive start and helping set the tone for their innings.

Top bowling performances

1. Malisa Ariokot (Uganda) – 9.5/10

2. Wilka Mwatile (Namibia) – 9.5/10

An equally impressive 3/9 in four overs. She dismantled Uganda’s top order and gave Namibia a genuine opportunity to defend their total. Unfortunately, her team’s batting effort did not provide enough runs.

3. Alice Ikuzwe (Rwanda) – 9.5/10

The all-round match-winner. After scoring 16 with the bat, she returned to claim 3/14 in 3.2 overs, helping dismiss the USA for 86. A performance that demonstrated her value in both departments.

4. Aditiba Indrajitsinh Chudasama (USA) – 8.5/10

Her 3/20 in four overs was an important contribution, restricting Rwanda to 100/8. She was among the leading wicket-takers of the afternoon.

5. Taranum Chopra (USA) – 8.5/10

She claimed 2/10 in four overs, including an economical spell that kept Rwanda from running away with the game. Her economy rate of 2.50 was among the best of the day.

6. Diane Marie Bimenyimana (Rwanda) – 8.5/10

Her 2/9 in three overs was a crucial contribution in restricting the USA. She also helped ensure Rwanda maintained control during the chase.

7. Consylate Aweko Nimungu (Uganda) – 8.0/10

She returned figures of 2/20 in four overs, playing an important supporting role in Uganda’s successful defence of their bowling plans against Namibia.

8. Eveleen Kejarukua (Namibia) – 8.0/10

Her 2/12 in four overs kept Uganda’s chase interesting and demonstrated Namibia’s bowling quality despite the defeat.

The action continues on Saturday with two more encounters.

The USA will take on Namibia in the morning fixture as both sides seek their first victory of the competition after Friday’s defeats.

In the afternoon, hosts Uganda return to action against Rwanda in what promises to be an exciting contest between the two opening-day winners.
