SC Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago is grateful for yet again being summoned for national duty as Uganda Cranes prepares to face Botswana in the 2027 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The young goalie is part of the few local based players included in Paul Put’s squad for the Botswana double header and he couldn’t hide his glee in a conversation with his club media hailing the coaching staff and teammates for helping him achieve the feat.

“I am grateful and delighted for this national team call up,” he said. “I want to thank my teammates and coaches for helping achieve this,” he added.

In the previous international window, Lukwago was also part of the team and got the opportunity to train with among others his idol, Denis Masinde Onyango.

“On the national team, the senior players are welcoming. I had a very good experience last time out and learnt alot training with the senior players,” he remarked.

Villa’s no. 1 also advised his fellow players to keep working hard.

Only Lukwago (Villa), Hilary Mukundane (Vipers), Herbert Achai (KCCA), Jonathan Odong (Entebbe UPPC) and Frank Ssebuufu (SC Villa) make the squad from the Uganda Premier League.
