Bright Stars assistant coach Paul Kiwanuka hailed goalkeeper Hamza Muwonge after his heroics earned the club a place in the finals of the Uganda Cup.
The veteran custodian saved three of the five attempts by Express to deny the Red Eagles in front of their own fans as Bright Stars won 4-3 after drawing 2-2 on aggregate.
“He is our man of the match without doubt,” said Kiwanuka. “But credit goes to all team for the effort and we fully deserve to be in the finals,” he added.
Prior to the game, Express coach George Ssimwogerere wasn’t impressed with Fufa’s decision to take the finals to Masaka Recreation describing the pitch as bad and not worthy of hosting a game of the Uganda Cup final magnitude.
Kiwanuka had reacted by advising Ssimwogerere to leave issues of the pitch to teams that will play the finals and he reminded him.
“It’s good he lost the game on a good pitch. For us who have no excuses on the pitches, we are into the finals and ready to play in Masaka.”
Coach Fred Kajoba also couldn’t hide his glee and in a brief interview with Kawowo Sports, he said it would hurt losing to a person who hasn’t coached football for over a decade.
“It would be a shame if my team was eliminated by a coach who has been out of the game for over ten years.”
Bright Stars will take on Proline in a final of minnows as both teams seek to win their first Uganda Cup trophy in history.
