Burkina Faso Captain, Charles Kabore

Burkina Faso captain Charles Kabore will on Wednesday mark 100 caps on the National Team as the Stallions take on Uganda Cranes in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier match at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Kabore who will lead Burkina Faso on Wednesday has been part of the National Team set up since making his debut in 2006 and attributes his long stay to discipline and hard work.

“I appreciate that you have been able to recognize such a milestone. It is definitely worth celebrating and I will be delighted to celebrate my 100th game with the National Team,” he told Kawowo Sports.

“Discipline is paramount for any job or career and I believe this has helped me to keep within the National Team fold for now 15 years. Additionally, I have been working hard because talent alone is not enough but you must keep going to remain important.”

At 99 games, the defensive midfielder who plies his trade with Dynamo Moscow in Russia is the most capped player for the Stallions.

At 33, Kabore believes he still has the energy to keep playing and hopes to continue serving the National Team.

“For now I’m still serving my country because it is always an honour. I believe there is more from me to offer to the National Team and that is why the coaches keep summoning me.”

Asked about what legacy he wants to leave behind when he retires, Kabore stated that he hopes to be an inspiration to the upcoming youngsters in Burkina Faso.

“Several young players look at us and always get inspired when they see us play. So I want to keep doing so even when I retire. I want to see other players also making 100 0r more games for the National Team.”

Burkina Faso is top of group B with 8 points, one ahead of Uganda while Malawi and South Sudan have 4 and 3 points respectively.
