Kyambogo Warriors needed a double overtime to tie series 2-2 and force a game 5 following their 103-95 win in game 4 over UCU Canons in a thriller at YMCA on Saturday night.
Warriors started the game the same old way, slow team that runs a slow offense while the Canons as they have been in the last three games gave it their all right from the start of the game and paid off
in the first three quarters but Warriors started to shake-off the levity in the twilight of the game as they won the final quarter 27-20 and tied the game at 72 eventually forcing the game into overtime.
Warriors almost slipped in the first overtime as Canons were determined to eject the former champions and opened up an 8 points lead but again Warriors came from behind and forced a second overtime as UCU’s top defensive players (Jachin Wettstone, Desmond Owiri and Robert Ogweno) had already gotten into foul trouble in an emotional game. By the start of the 2nd OT, UCU had just three players legible to continue as the rest had fouled out and ultimately fell to Warriors. The Canons have been inviting foul trouble in the previous games but Warriors has not been taking advantage, luckily for this game they took it and forced the series into a decider where UCU tripped last season.
The warriors also faced a similar foul trouble with the exception of Ronnie Kasewu, Jude Ochieng who played a fairly clean defense on the night among the top players but still had 5 players on court up to the end of the game unlike Canons.
Ivan Enabu scored game high 27points followed by teammate Henry Malingha with 23points. The Kyambogo side also had the tallest player in the league scoring in double figures (16points) and picked 6 rebounds in the 7 minutes he came on in overtime
Sudi Ulanga who probably has been the best player in the post season so far did everything for UCU on the night in a losing effort, but again poured in UCU’s high 22points.
Game 5 is on today and nobody looks forward to like UCU’s coach Nick Natuhereza. He said after the loss “we are looking forward to tomorrow (today)”.
