1st leg result – Zambia 1-0 Uganda

2nd Leg October 13th Uganda Vs Zambia at Mandela stadium, Namboole

Zambian Coach Herve Renard is confident his side will get a desired result in the return leg and make it to South Africa despite earning a narrow 1-0 win over Uganda in the first leg of the third and final round of the 2013 Afcon qualifiers though he admits that he was not happy with the result.

“I am unhappy with the result but the most important thing is that we didn’t concede at home which is a positive. We did what we could though we were not efficient enough to score more than one goal. We will be strong when we play in Kampala”, he said.

Despite creating numerous goal scoring chances, the Chipolopolo could only manage a single strike by skipper Christopher Katongo in the 19th minute something that Renard could not explain.

“This is football. Sometimes it is like that. I laugh many times what can happen in football but like I said, we did what could”.

Zambia visit Uganda in October at Mandela national stadium where the latter has not lost a game in seven years with giants like Nigeria and Angola facing the wrath of the hosts in the process. However, Renard remains optimistic that his team is capable of getting a decent result despite being away.

“We won our African title away from home. We can win in Kampala. We know the game will not be easy but we will go there and make it. Our target is remains a slot at South Africa 2013 and am confident we will make it”, he concluded.
