Black Satellites committee chairman George Afriyie has stated that they are proposing to the Ghana FA to have a return leg of the Africa Youth Championship Qualifier against Uganda Hippos played at Tamale Sports Ground.
“We have made a proposal to play the game in Tamale”, he told Ghanasoccernet.com. The stadium is in an upcountry region North of Ghana and among those used to host the 2008 Nations Cup. There was talk that the use of such a rural area stadium to host a game of such magnititude was a hidden under hand method to trouble the Uganda Hippos which beat the Satelites 3-1 at Nakivubo on Saturday but Afriyie denied this asserting that the aim is to have the region also get a feel of their national team.
“We want the region to have a feel of the national team since all the games have been played in Accra or Kumasi for sometime now”, he stated. It’s however not clear whether the Ghana FA will let the proposal succeed as it recently stated that all national teams’ games will be played in Accra or Kumasi after a poor reception in upcountry stadia.
The return leg is scheduled to take place between 8th-10th this month. Meanwhile, the Uganda Hippos resumed training on Monday ahead of the return leg and are set to start residential sessions today at Kavumba Recreation ground. The Ugandan side just need to avoid a loss of more than a single goal to advance to the stage where they will meet Gambia or Morocco in the final qualifying round for a slot in Algeria 2013.
