Judo action in Uganda

Overview:

The Uganda Judo Federation (UJF) will attend some of these global events in a bid to qualify athletes to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

International Judo Federation (IJF) 2023 Calendar (African events):

  • 11th – 12th March – Tunis, Tunisia
  • 18th – 19th March – Algiers, Algeria
  • 8th – 9th April – Luanda, Angola
  • 17th – 18th June – Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire
  • 24th – 25th June – Niamey, Niger
  • 11th – 12th November – Dakar, Senegal
  • 18th – 19th November – Yaoundé, Cameroon

The 2023 calendar for the International Judo Federation (IJF) is well packed with a number of events across the different countries and continents.

At least seven events are set to take place on the African continent.

Tunisia, Algeria, Angola, Cote d’Ivoire, Niger, Senegal and Cameroon are the countries that will host the events in Africa.

The first event in Africa will come on the 11th to 12th March 2023 in the Tunisian capital city of Tunis.

A week later, this will be followed by another one in Algiers, Algeria between 18th to 19th March 2023.

The one in Angola will happen on the 8th to 9th April 2023 in Luanda city.

In June (17th to 18th) Abidjan city will host the championship in Cote d’Ivoire city.

A week later, there will be a championship in Niamey, Niger (24th to 25th June).

Then at the close of the year, Dakar Senegal will be on 11th to 12th November 2023.

The last event in Africa will be on the 18th to 19th November 2023 in Yaoundé city, Cameroon.

Other events:

There are a couple of other international events as the Grand prix in Almada, Portugal (27th to 29th January), Linz, Austria (25th – 27th May), Dushanbe (2nd to 4th June) and Zagreb, Croatia (18th to 20th August).

The grand slams will take place in Paris, France (4th to 5th February), Tel Aviv – Israel (16th to 18th February), Tbilisi – Georgia (24th to 26th March), Antalya – Turkey (31st to 2nd April), Ulaanbaatar (23rd to 25th June), Baku (22nd to 24th September), Abu Dhabi – United Arab Emirates (10th to 12th November) and Tokyo – Japan (2nd to 3rd December).

Other global and ranking championships will be the European Open, Pan-American Open, World Championships seniors, European championships, Masters in Budapest – Hungary (4th to 6th August 2023), Asian Open, World Championships Cadets, World Championships Kata, World Championships Veterans, Test Event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (29th to 30th August 2023), XVII Pacific Games as well as the Oceania open.

Uganda Judo Association (UJA)

The Uganda Judo Association (UJA) will attend some of these global events in a bid to qualify athletes to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

UJA president Captain James Musiitwa is optimistic Uganda make the grade for the Olympics.
