The National Council of Sports (NCS) recently rewarded a couple of outstanding sports federations / associations for the exceptional performances in 2022.

Leaders from some of different associations / federations rewarded received glass plaques as a token of appreciation for the incredible service to the sports sub-sector.

Uganda Athletics Federation, Uganda Rugby Union, Uganda Cycling Association, Uganda Cricket Association, Uganda Weightlifting Association, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS), Federation of Motorsport Uganda (FMU), Uganda Ludo Federation and Uganda Handball Federation were recognized during the annual stake-holders dinner held at the Lugogo Hockey grounds.

Sam Mahaba Muwonge, the long serving president of Uganda Cycling Federation was recognized for the unreserved commitment to the sport since 1991.

Hajji Salim Musoke, president of Uganda Weightlifting Association was lauded for spurring weightlifting for over three decades.

Shiela Agonzibwe Richardson, the president of Uganda Handball Association was also appreciated.

Godwin Kayangwe, president of Uganda Rugby Union was singled out for the excellent governance for rugby in 2022 that witnessed Uganda conquer the rest of Africa in the 7’s version of the game.

The cricket fraternity was also recognized with an award handed over by Lily Ajorova, CEO of Uganda Tourism Board

FUFA, represented by the executive committee member Rogers Byamukama was praised for fronting an all inclusion programe for either gender.

Uganda Ludo Federation won the 2022 Ludo world cup in Dubai and Nepal.

The first lady Janet Kataha Museveni, the minister of education and sports, Parliament of Uganda, minister Peter Ogwang as well as the permanent secretary in the ministry of education and sports Katty Lamaro were also recognized.

At the same function, outstanding staff for the National Council of Sports were also rewarded.

The internal awards witnessed Charles Mugoya as the best employee (administration), James Kasumba (best employee, technical department), Tinka (best female employee), Elisa Mawa (best employee, support staff), Justine Okumu (best male employee) and Ivan Mugoowa (best overall employee of the year).

The general secretary Dr Bernard Patrick Ogwel was also rewarded for leading a formidable team at NCS.

Government chief whip Hamson Obua was the guest of honour, flanked by the state minister of sports Ogwang.

NCS chairperson Ambrose Tashobya, UOC chairman Donald Rukare, officials from Uganda Investment Authority, Uganda Tourism Board, Uganda Cultural Centre and others also attended the dinner.

Music diva Cindy and the Uganda Dancesport Association thrilled the guests with exceptional performances as the guests wined, dined and danced till late.
