Black Pirates received a shot in the arm after Stanbic Bank announced the extension of their partnership with the club for the next two years.

During a press conference in Kololo on Friday, March 24, it was revealed that the Sea Robbers will receive Ugx 80 million a year.

“Stanbic as a brand is committed to driving the growth of Uganda and when we talk about growth, we are talking about all aspects including sport.

“We have partnered with Stanbic Black Pirates because we believe they are a partner whose values align with ours. We also believe that their passion for developing talent in rugby is aligned with our passion for the youth,” Andrew Mashanda, the Chief Executive for Stanbic Uganda Holdings Limited (SUHL) noted.

“Rugby for me is not just a sport, it’s a passion. We are not in it (partnership) for the publicity in are in to grow Uganda.

“This is not just about sponsorship, it is a deep commitment to this country and the ideals and the beliefs that we have around what’s possible for Uganda,” Mashanda added.

Black Pirates chairman Daniel Canowira was grateful for the renewal of the partnership.

“It has been difficult for any club to retain a sponsor, so for us, this is a key milestone that we have been able to nurture a relationship and maintain a sponsor.

“For us, this is beyond a sponsorship, it’s a partnership because it has helped the club in many aspects not just commercial.

“We are proud to have Stanbic as an extremely important partner and we value the support we have received over the last four years. We are optimistic that the extended partnership will go a long way in supporting the team to achieve success both on and off the pitch,” Canowira said.
