- Afternoon: Mburo Blasters 222/1 beat Bunyonyi Warriors 221/5 by 9 wickets
The pattern after two days of cricket in the Great Lakes T20 tournament is that the morning games are low-scoring, but the afternoon games have fetched runs.
In the afternoon, both teams piled on 443 runs with the Bunyonyi Warriors on the wrong side of the result in a run-galore.
Mburo Blasters won the toss and elected to field first. That decision in the first half of the game seemed like a bad one after Robinson Obuya (87) scored a swashbuckling half century that was littered with eight maximums and six boundaries and only missed out on his century by 13 runs. He got support from Paul Mulongo (49), with Fortunate Alijuna (24) providing the finishing touches at the back end to bring up the highest score of the tournament so far.
In the run chase, Mburo Blasters lived up to their name and from ball one, they had lifted off with Fahad Mutagana (21) and Charles Mushemeza (85) scoring at over 10 runs an over and even the loss of the former never slowed them down.
Mushemeza and Riazat Ali continued the carnage with the ball peppered to all parts of the Lugogo Cricket Oval. Ali Shah brought up his century in the process off 38 balls, and it had 10 maximums and six boundaries. His partner in the assault, Mushemeza (85), also brought up his half century to guide the Blasters to a commanding 9-wicket win.
The blasters refused to go down again after losing in the Super Over to the Kyoga Avengers on Matchday One.
In the morning, Kyoga Avengers picked up their second win of the tournament with a marginal 13-run win over the Victoria Strikers.
Victoria Strikers won the toss and elected to bowl, and while they managed to restrict Kyoga Avengers to a small total, Oloka Pius (4/14) was impressive with the ball.
Perry Wazombe (59) scored a half-century in response to the small total, but it was in vain as the Victoria Strikers failed to sustain the run chase, eventually running out of resources with 13 runs still required for the win.
It’s two in two losses for the Victoria Strikers while Kyoga Avengers make it two in two wins.
The action continues into Matchday 3 with Bunyonyi Warriors taking on Kyoga Avengers in the morning, while Victoria Strikers take on Mburo Blasters.
