Thirty seven sports personalities await Nile USPA gala

Thirty seven sports personalities in their respective disciplines will be crowned at a glamorous Nile Special Uganda Sports Press Association Sportsman of the year gala 2010/2011 gala at Golf course hotel on January 27.

The sports scribes chose their respective personalities for the year 2011 on Monday at their monthly meeting. Swimming, squash, handball, hockey and taekwondo where scrapped by the scribes body due to them having few activities and also insufficient information. USPA choose the She Cranes, the

sports team of the year.

Contenders for the overall sports personality include female rally driver Susan Muwonge, athlete Annet Negesa,Moses Kipsiro and badminton player Edwin Ekiring, who all excelled consistently throughout the year.

Muwonge became the first woman to win National Rally Championship among male drivers while Annet Negesa won two goal medals at the All Africa games among a host of other national and regional titles.Kipsiro was also a double gold winner at the same games.

Edwin Ekiring will contest the overall Nile Special USPA title on the strength of having won a gold medal at the Botswana international, silver medals at the All Africa Games and South Africa international as well as a bronze medal in the Morocco international.
