Rogers Byaruhanga took an early lead in the 71st Uganda Golf Open Championship at Kitante with a five shot lead of 65 gross on day one of action of at the four day tournament. He was closely followed by Jinja based Abbey Bagalana with 70 gross. In third position is Ronald Rugumayo from Fortportal with 73 gross, Followed by Entebbe golf club’s Henry Lujja with 74. Finishing the top five is John Basabose with 75.
Last Year’s winner – John Baptiste Hakizimana is leading 68 gross. In second position is Jinja’s Fred Wanzala with 69 – just one shot off. Third is Simon Ngiki with 70. Deo Akope comes fourth with 71. Completing the top five Richard Ainley from Kenya with 71.
There are fifty professionals and in the main open there are 71 participants in the Tusker Malt sponsored event.
