UPDF got the much needed points to seal the championship fate with a win against Nkumba University in the men’s category. The army side stamped their authority beating the University team 57–29 on Saturday. Sulaiman Kisugu and Nasser Kafeero were superb for the army side with 11 and seven goals respectively. Abdul Hakim and Rogers Muwanga’s efforts for the university side (10 and 8 goals in turn) were rendered useless.
In the other mouthwatering game of the day, Police Metro had to employ all the experience and energy to overcome stubborn Ndejje University. The forces team beat the scorpions 34–30 to sit comfortably in third position on the log. Emmanuel Ociti and Yakoub Aziz top scored for Metro with 8 and 7 goals respectively while Hilary Mahando top scored for Ndejje with 11 goals.
In the women’s category, Police Lady Metro beat Ndejje University Lady Scorpions 32–19 to reduce on the point gap to just 3 from table leaders Prison Lady Spears and also regain second position. Abalo and Akongo top scored for Metro with 11 and 6 goals respectively while NakintuSaidat and Nanseko Jessica top scored for Lady Scorpions with 6 and 5 respectively.
The ladies’ championship fate still stands as a two horse race between Nkumba University and Prison Lady Spears who are yet to meet on the last day of the league.
Lady Spears lead the table with 16 points and a game more than Nkumba University who have collected 13 points from the played 8 games. This means that Nkumba needs maximum points from their 2 games while Lady Spears only need a point against the University side to win the championship.
The University side however needs to overcome Ever Green next weekend at Kyambogo with a convincing win or else even a draw with ensure Lady Spears champions.
