It is quite evident Ugandan marathoner Stephen Kiprotich is living a whole different life ever since his heroics that won him gold at the London Olympics back in August. He beat all other athletes to the 42km marathon finish line.
And with such a ponderous feat, he will be the star during the 10th edition of the Inter-Forces Games next month. Kiprotich will be among the athletes expected to lead Uganda Prisons to their title defence. Prisons also won this year’s national track and field championships held at Makerere University Sports grounds.
Michael Cherop (Police), Simon Ayeko and Rebecca Cheptegei (UPDF) are the other familiar athletes expected to throw more light to the tourney. Prisons will compete against army sides UPDF and Police and according to organisers, it will get underway with a live fire shooting competition at Kigo on November 9-10.
Launching the event at UPDF headquarters Mbuya earlier this week, deputy Chief of Defence Forces Lt. Gen. Ivan Koreta underlined cooperation as a key aspect in the event.
“The most important thing overall is friendship through sport. Sports competitions lessen tension through the bridges we build,” Koreta who represented defence minister Chrispus Kiyonga, told the media.
