Four years being inactive outside the ring might be long period for professional boxer, but don’t tell that to Minnesota based welterweight Mohammed “The African Assassin” Kayongo.
The 33 year old boxer returns to the ring on Saturday in a welterweight contest against American Gilbert Venegas at the Convention Center,Minneapolis,Minnesota. “I am returning to the ring this Saturday and I am looking forward to a great fight and a win,” Kayongo said. “It’s good to be back and I wanna start where it all started.”
The Minnesota based fighter could not elaborate about his long spell without boxing. Kayongo last fought in 2009 claiming the World Boxing Foundation Intercontinental welterweight title with a round 3 knockout over James Todd. He goes into this fight with a record of 15 wins 2 loses 1 draw and 11 KOs.
Kayongo was rated as one of the country’s brightest prospects when he turned professional in 2003,but on his way up to the top in his division he encountered problems with his manager and promoters who died and had signed a long running contract until he settled the agreement in court and had to get back on his feet with a new promoter.
His opponent in this six round bout is (11-7,7 KOs).
