One would think G4S Pirates’ players would have replicated the simliar never-say-die performance showed in their 24-16 loss to MTN Heathens a week ago. But they were left in tutters against a spirited Toyota Buffaloes at Kyadondo on Friday evening.

That victory of 27-10 pushed Buffaloes 28 points to end the regular Nile Special Rugby Super 8 first round in the top three positions.

“That was our worst performance,” Pirates’ Marvin Odong told Kawowo Sports. “I felt it was our day but we really at our best.” Odong, who was man-of-match against Heathens, added.

There was nothing much to show in the first period not until the hosts scrapped the opponents’ paint with three touch downs from Philip Pariyo and Gerald Ssewankambo and forward Joel Gonza in second half.

Pariyo’s thorn in Pirates’ flesh was felt most as he converted all and added three penalties. And with no one would deny him the man-of-match.

“This is a good day for me. We played well as a team and individual effort contributed a lot.” Pariyo said in a humble tone.

Pirates only got to Buffaloes’ end late in the half and managed a try from scrumhalf Davis Kyewalabye. Anthony Kinene convertd to finish the game with five points from his boot.

Buffaloes are already assured of a semi-final playoff tie with Kobs next weekend.
