Overview:
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin will captain the team of UEFA Legends against the Parliament of Uganda team at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Monday, 12th February 2024 at 4:00 PM, kick-off.
Sunday, February 11, 2024 marked the return visit of the Aleksander Ceferin, the president of Union of European Football Association (UEFA) to Uganda, the “Pearl of Africa”.
Ceferin was accompanied by the president of the Slovenia Football Federation Radenko Mijatovic and other retired professional football players.
Aboard the Qatar Airways flight, the delegation set foot at the newly refurbished lake-side Entebbe International Airport at around 3:00 PM.
Like during his previous visit last March, Ceferin was officially welcomed by the state minister for sports Hon. Peter Ogwang.
Hon. Ogwang was accompanied by legislator Hon. Asuman Basalirwa (Chairperson of the Uganda Parliament football club) and Ritah Aliguma (Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Aliguma Foundation), among others.
“I am happy to be here (in Uganda) once again” Ceferin sighed with affection as he was led to the VVIP lounge.
Ceferi, Mijatovic, Ogwang and Basalirwa then addressed the media during a special press briefing.
“We are friends now. Tomorrow (Monday, 12th February 2024) between 2 to 6 PM, we shall not be friends because it is match time. We want to win” Ceferin joked.
“I am excited to return to Uganda to visit the football projects and see the wonderful people” the UEFA boss added.
Hon. Ogwang urged the visitors to tour the country and appreciate its wonder beauty.
“We welcome the President of UEFA Aleksander Ceferin back to Uganda. We appreciate his love for Uganda. We look forward a successful visit and I will personally organize a meeting for him with the First Lady, Mama Janet. Feel free to tour the country” Hon. Ogwang remarked/
The delegation was driven to Serena International Hotel, Kampala where they were hosted by the Rt Hon. Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, represented by the Deputy Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa.
It is a busy 48 hours coming up for the visiting delegation.
On Monday, 12th February 2024 they open up with a visit to the Joel Kigozi Football Academy before visiting the Acholi Acholi Quarters.
Later on, Ceferin will captain the team of UEFA Legends against the Parliament of Uganda team at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende (4:00 PM, kick-off).
On Tuesday, 13th February 2024, the visitors will travel to Masindi at the Aliguma Empowerment Center to commission a training football ground.
Ceferin and the legends will depart the country on Wednesday, 14th February 2024.
