Namuwongo Blazers held on in overtime to clinch an 85-76 victory against JT Jaguars in the National Basketball League at YMCA Court, Wandegeya on Sunday evening.

It was a thrilling game of basketball that witnessed a great turn of events as the Blazers showed character thus beating the Jaguars’ resilience and unending fighting spirit.

The Blazers started on the front foot, leading the first period by six points (23-17) before they extended the lead to eight (40-32) at halftime.

After the long break, the Jaguars returned in beast mood putting up such an exciting show and the third quarter ended as they were only trailing by one (54-53).

However, in the final quarter, the Blazers needed a clutch two-point layup to tie the game 73-73 as the two sides extended the affair to overtime.

In overtime, the Jaguars ran out of steam as they only managed to score a mere three points while the Blazers harvested 12 in the extra five minutes.

Micheal Makiadi scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Still, for the Blazers, Peter Cheng (24), Innocent Ochera (15) and Joseph Chuma (13) were all in double digits.

Benjamin Shango was massive for the Jaguars as he completed a double-double scoring 22 points as well as pulling down 12 rebounds. Abraham Dut and Kevin Moru also scored 16 and 14 points respectively.

It was the fourth victory for the Blazers who have now played five games, they have so far beaten Kampala Rockets, KCCA Panthers, KCCA Titans and recently JT Jaguars. Their only loss came against Our Saviour.
