Famous American philanthropist and socialite Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy is remarkably quoted; “Life isn’t a matter of milestones, but, for moments”.

Uganda’s U-20 national football team attained a major milestone by reaching the semi-finals of the 13th African Games in Ghana after out-smarting two African giants Nigeria and Senegal; 2-1 and 1-0 respectively.

Star midfielder Allan Oyirwoth featured prominently in both games, scoring the lone goal against Senegal at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The milestone ahead, Oyirwoth is capitalizing on this moment (like Fitzgerald) as he boldly announces his grand arrival to the international sphere of football.

He lauded his teammates for the job well-done so far, the technical team and dear fans who pushed the team.

Oyirwoth who hails from Packwach in the West Nile region of Uganda dedicated his goal against Senegal to the beloved mother Aidha Ongiera.

“Days after the women’s day, I can not forget to dedicate this goal and victory to my mother (Aidha Ongiera). I know she was watching or following me closely and has always motivated me.” Oyirwoth revealed moments after the game.

Arafat Kizza Usama was illegally brought down in the forbidden area with Oyirwoth holding the ball with confidence to take the penalty.

Although the first attempt was thwarted by the Senegalese goalkeeper Prince Hally Gueye, Oyirwoth was quicker to score on the rebound.

“I hesitated to shoot because the goalkeeper (Gueye) remained firm. He slightly dummied his body and confused me before I shot. I was ready to pounce the rebound” he said of his missed penalty and scoring off the rebound.

Uganda displayed a high level of patience and discipline at the back throughout the game with goalkeeper Shamulani Kamya outstanding with great saves and command.

The second game on the evening had Nigeria edge a hard fighting South Sudan 1-0 with a late penalty from Sadiq Isiyaka.

Nigeria and Senegal (both on three points) face off for a semi-final berth on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Uganda has already qualified with six points and will face already eliminated South Sudan on Friday at the University of Ghana stadium.
