The absence of Nkumba Navy and Ndejje University from action in the National Volleyball league has seen sides take up positions they only dreamt of.
Nemostars and KAVC are not new faces when it comes to fighting for top positions in the league, but little known Mulago are also trying to live up to the promise they made before the league started. Mulago lie third with 10 points out of eight games played, behind Nemostars (15 pints) and KAVC (11 points)
“Our target is the playoffs,” Mulago skipper Patrick told Kawowo sports during the Jinja Open Tournament in February. This weekend they played three games getting a bonus point against UCU in a game they lost 3-2 (25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 13-25, 15-11).
Next up were the defending champion who surrendered the first set as Mulago won it 25-20. They failed to build on the and later lost Still 25-12, 25-13, 25-11. “We came respecting Nemostars,” Ishaka Mugabi told this reporter after the Nemostars game.
“The plan was to give it our best, which we did though they just became much for us,” he added. Mulago had issues to settle with Serie B arch rivals KAVC Cubs in a Sunday morning fixture.
The latter is Serie B champions but had to defeat Mulago 3-1 in the finals. Mulago did majestically with a 3-1 (25-17, 14-25, 25-17, 25-21) defeat. “We have played the most number of games (8) which means other teams can still catch up with us,”Mugabi added.
“But that won’t stop us from dreaming about that playoff spot.” In the ladies league, KAVC Veterans is still giving teams a run for their money after winning four of their five games with maximum points.
They are top of the log with 12 points followed by KCCA on 11 and defending champions Ndejje elites who have played four games are third with 10.
