Uganda U20 Women’s Football National Team, the Queen Cranes, are chasing a dream of qualifying to the World Cup for the first time in history. The team under the stewardship of coach Sheryl Botes Ulanda is just 90 minutes away from that feat.
Despite suffering a 2-1 defeat in the first leg last weekend, the belief in the Queens Cranes camp is that they can overturn that deficit today as they take on Ghana at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.
Agnes Nabukenya gave Uganda the lead in Accra, but Ghana were able to come back and win 2-1 with goals coming from substitutes Priscilla Mensah and Latifah Abesik.
Skipper Nabukenya is optimistic that with the support from the home crowd, they have what it takes to advance to the World Cup.
“We are ready as players, and everyone knows what is at stake. Our target is to go to the World Cup, and we know our fans will come in big numbers to support us,” she said.
Botes knows the weight of the game and believes this team can write history on Saturday.
“I have told the players that they can become historicals by taking Uganda to the World Cup. Coming this close shows you the progress we have made over the years in Women’s Football, and it will be beautiful to earn qualification,” she stated.
In Ghana, Uganda faces a mountain challenge, taking on a team that has been to the last seven World Cup editions.
