Uganda’s slim chances of qualification to next year’s World Cup will surely need a big booster if the Cranes are to remain on road to Brazil.
At half the distance, there is no reason to look back at the two 1-all draws to Angola and Senegal as well as a 2-0 defeat to Liberia, but rather concentrate on earning maximum points in the remaining decisive 270 minutes of the campaign.
Though many have written off the Cranes in any aspect to do with a trip to South America, skipper Andy Mwesigwa’s confidence levels are not about to go down.
“Why lose hope?” he queried after one of the sessions earlier this week. “Then we (the team) would not be putting in much efforts for these next games.” he added.
Depsite lying bottom of Group J of the global qualifiers with just two points, Mwesigwa believes there will be a way where seems to be no way.
“Look! We have played three games and we are yet to win in any of them,”
“But we have three left with two here at home where we create chances and defend well. We will work and get the nine points and hopefully, the other results favour us.” the FC Ordabasy player added.
“We have a good coach with new strategies. I am always postitive and any player should not lose the gas,” another Cranes’ player Martin Mutumba added.
Uganda plays second placed Liberia (4) on Saturday before hosting Angola (3) next weekend. Leaders Senegal (5) travel to Luanda and if they secure three points away and the Cranes falter, then focus simply turns to the 2018 mission to Russia.
