Twenty six players and coaches are horning their skills and techniques in a two week ITF/Level I coaching course that is being conducted by the regional development officer Thierry Ntwali and Prince Madema at Center Court Tennis Club in Lugogo.
“This is a Level I course that will see the participants starting their course properly on Thursday right now we are giving them instructions on the beginner/Inter-mediate and junior players advance in the course,” Prince Madema said. “The three days we are dealing with beginners/adults and juniors at the same time we are divided into two groups using three balls that is Red which is for players between the age of 5-8 and is 75% slower, Orange for the ages of 8-10 years which is 50% slower and Green for ages 9-10 which is 25% slower.”
This is the third time that a course of this kind is being conducted by the International Tennis Federation earlier they have conducted Mini tennis programme in 2007 and then 2010 they did a Level II course which is more advanced.
The ITF has conducted similar courses like this in Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan, Ethiopia and Eritrea. “On Thursday we should start the course with Strategy, tactics and the methodology,” Madema said. “The participants do bio- mechanics, communication, physical conditioning and also written tests.”
The course is being facilitated by International Tennis Federation and hosted by Uganda Lawn Tennis Association. The course will conclude on July 13.
