The 2013 Rugby Uganda Cup tournament  draws have been successfully conducted. This is a knock-out tournament that is played by any team in Uganda that is affiliated to the Uganda Rugby Union. The competition has for the past few years been restricted to teams in the top tier rugby league formally also known  as the “Super 8”, but this year round, teams from the Championship division and regional sides have been included.

In a bid to improve the rugby competition structures and create a more competitive rugby tournament, the URU has changed the format of the tournament slightly, to be more inclusive and provide a clear progression path even for the regional teams that qualify for the tournament.

The new format of the Uganda Cup will have a pre-qualification stage prior to the quarter finals of the tournament and a clear performance progression pathway.

The six (6) teams from the Premiership, six (6) teams from the Championship and the top four (4) teams from the Nationwide competitions, making a total of sixteen (16) teams have been pooled in 4 different pools. The 2013 Uganda cup is an exceptional event due the fact that the tournament will be used as a pre-qualifier for the premiership and championship slots available for the 2014 Rugby season. This is in accordance to the Uganda Rugby Union strategic plan.

Dmark  Kobs, the tourney’s defending champions are in pool C alongside, XFM Impis, UCU Sherperd and Nile, while 2013 league Champions have the easiest of draws with Mutoni Warriors, Sheraton Stallions and Gulu Elephants.
