Sat, 27th July: Uganda Vs Tanzania (Football: Namboole – 4 p.m & Volleyball at Lugogo- 7 p.m)
Passionate Ugandan sporting fans will be spoilt for Choice as Uganda entertains neighbors Tanzania in two different equally important sporting events on the same day.
Both Ugandan National teams are seeking qualification for two different events in 2014. The CHAN finals in South Africa for football and the FIVB world Championships in Poland for the Volleyball fraternigty.
Having won the first tie 1-0 away in Dar es salaam, Uganda plays host to Tanzania in the return leg of the Championships of African Nations football Championships (CHAN) at Namboole Stadium while in Volleyball, Uganda is playing the last of her 3 Zone 5 sub zonal FIVB Volleyball qualifiers at the MTN arena in Lugogo .
The Ugandan Volleyball team too won the opening game of the campaign on Thursday 3-1 over Burundi (22-25, 25-19, 25-11 and 31-29) before succumbing to Kenyan opposition on Friday evening 0-3 (16-25, 22-25 and 16-25). Kenya has already secured qualification to the Volleyball zone 5 qualifiers whose winner and runner up will represent Africa to the FIVB world Championships in Poland Come 2014.
Both fixtures are equally important to either teams as they seek supremacy over the other in the different sporting disciplines. Uganda’s Milutin ‘Micho’ Sedrojevic (Cranes ) and Anthony Ndawula (Volleyball) are well aware of the huge tasks bestowed on their shoulders-to seek qualification as the fans rally behind.
“Such situations are rare. I will watch both games. I will be at Namboole Stadium first and then rush to get a quick boda-boda transport means to Lugogo to catch Volleyball”, says Julius Kezzi, an ardent sports fan of Uganda.
For the sporting merry-making sports fans, the fiesta has just started and the sporting euphoria is just getting to another level. Enjoy the two games, may the best teams carry the day.
