Unlike the national football team, Uganda Cranes, who are yet to play Senegal in Marrakesh, Morocco before featuring in a two legged knockout fixture, the Uganda Rugby Lady Cranes are just one encounter away from the 2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup, which will take place in France. Uganda must beat South Africa this Saturday 7th September, to make the 15s version of the International Rugby Board event.
Lady Cranes claimed the 2013 Elgon Cup, beating rivals, Kenya 13-8 in Kampala despite suffering an away first leg loss 18-17 to settle for this playoff. Hosts, South Africa ultimately boast of a home crowd expected to uplift their morale at Buffalo City Stadium, East London, as they bid to qualify for a third successive World Cup.
The Lady Crane’s team spirit is high in the camp and the team is all set to either depart for South Africa, Eastern Cape tonight or Thursday dawn, tomorrow. Ten teams have already booked their places in the Women’s Rugby World Cup including hosts France, USA, Samoa, Wales, Ireland, Australia, Canada, England and defending champions New Zealand.
