Uganda’s Stephen Kiprotich winner of the 42 KM Marathon at the 14th World Athletics Championships in the Russian Capital of Moscow ( 2 hours, 9 minutes and 51 micro seconds), has been a surprise omission from the list of athletes for the top year’s accolade, released by the World’s Athletics Body, IAAF.

The IAAF on October 1st released the names of the 10 men and 10 women who have been shortlisted for the 2013 World Athlete of the Year Award. The candidates have been selected by an IAAF panel of athletics experts.

“An email poll involving the World Athletics Family begins on Tuesday 1 October, and will close on Sunday 27 October, midnight”, a statement from the body stated.

At the conclusion of the voting process, three male and three female finalists will be selected and announced by the IAAF.

The Council of the International Athletic Foundation will then select the male and female winners, with the announcement taking place live on stage during the 2013 World Athletics Gala on Saturday 16 November 2013 in Monaco, France.

Usain Bolt (Jamaica), Muhammed Farah (Great Britain), Berlin record Marathon Winner ,Wilson Kipsang – 2:02:23 (Kenya) and Ethiopia’s Muhammed Aman are some of the big names to make the men’s list.

Rollins Brianna (USA), Abeba Aregawi (Sweden), Dibaba Tirunesh (Ethiopia) and Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce (Jamaica), among others are some of the nominated ladies for the top gong.
