Uganda’s 10,000m national record holder, Juliet Chekwel bettered her Renne’ course record with an improved timing of 15 minutes and 39 seconds to finish 9 in the Sunday Rennes 5km road race course record in France.
 
Chekwel crossed the finishing line in 9th position timed at 15min 39sec to break the course record of 15:40 in a highly competitive race that attracted big numbers of Ethiopian and Kenyan runners.

The race was won by Ethiopian in 15:22 followed in 2nd by Kenyan, and a sequence of Ethiopian athletes in the next positions up to 6th. Ethiopians,A Kenyan was  7th followed by an Ethiopian in the 8th position before the 9th Chekwel all in the process breaking the course record.

Juliet Chekwel, the current 10,000 M national record holder 32:57.02 is happy for the fate. “I will strieve to improve the upcoming races”, she says.

She set the 10,000 M national record in the IAAF World Championships in Moscow having finished 16th in a race that was won by Ethipia’s Tirunesh Dibaba on 30:43.35.

Before improving to 32:57:02, Chekwel had ran 33:50.75 which she recorded in her first ever 10000m at Namboole Stadium.
