Overview:

Martin Kizza Lubwama, 26, is a left footed winger-cum-attacker. He has previously featured at Uganda’s top leading sides; Sports Club Villa, Express, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and Vipers. He also played professionally in South Africa at Free Stars and Royal Eagles Football Clubs.

Ugandan attacker-cum-winger Martin Kizza Lubwama has joined Ethiopia’s topflight entity Fasil Kenema Football Club, based in Gonda.

The left footed fast paced national team player who can be deployed on either flanks penned a two-year employment deal with the Ethiopian giants.

“It is all done and dusted. Martin (Kizza) is a hard-working and talented player who will thrive in Ethiopia at Fasil Kenema FC” Musa Womunafu, a local based scout revealed.

The 26-year-old attacker has previously featured at Uganda’s top leading sides; Sports Club Villa, Express, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and Vipers.

He also played professionally in South Africa at Free Stars and Royal Eagles Football Clubs.

Kizza has also won a couple of caps (14) for the Uganda national team (Cranes) with 441 under his belt under CHAN championship, FIFA World Cup and AFCON qualification as well as international friendly matches.

He is known for his fearless attitude as he takes on the opposition with pace, dribbles and awesome positional awareness.

He is also an excellent crosser of the ball from either wings and accurately shoots at goal for an odd goal.

At Fasil Kenema, he is tipped to flourish under head coach Wubetu Abate Webetu, a respected former Ethiopian national team manager who has vast knowledge of the beautiful game.

Webetu was instrumental in Ethiopia’s qualification to AFCON and CHAN finals in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

Kizza joins the long trek of Ugandan players in Ethiopia, particularly at Fasil Kenema after midfielder Yasser Mugerwa back in the years.

Other Ugandans currently in the Ethiopia national league include Simon Peter Oketch (Commerical Bank of Ethiopia), Geofrey Wasswa (Ethiopian Bunna), goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi (Defense Force Football Club), Charles Musiige (Diradawa), Thomas Ikara (Sidama Bunna), among others.

David Isabirye is a senior staff writer for Kawowo Sports where he covers most of the major events.
