World Volleyball Qualifiers

Opening Game, Sat, 15th Feb : Kenya Vs Uganda – 8 p.m

Uganda Lady Volleyball head coach, Tonny Peter Lakony is confident of her charges chances of securing a qualification slot to the world women volleyball championships slated for Italy later this year.

“We are not tourists. The morale in the camp is high and the girls are sure of securing a qualification slot”, Tonny Lakony spoke at the team’s official flag off prior traveling to Nairobi for the week long event.

The Ugandan team recently held a two week’s training camp in Groningen, Holland where they featured in a series of various friendly games with top local Dutch sides before playing a friendly game against a select side on Wednesday night.

The national team won the buildup 3 -1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-16 and 25-14), an attribute that further gels the team with confidence.

“We have had great preparations and hopefully, we stage a great showing in Kenya”, team skipper, Christine Alupo, told Kawowo Sports prior departure.

Uganda will face hosts, Kenya in the opener on Saturday, before facing Mozambique the following day, and Tunisia, Senegal, Cape Verde and Seychelles in the subsequent games.

The Top team will qualify for the World Championships after the round robin tournament.
