Former national and Africa Rally champion Charles Muhangi will miss the second round of this year’s ARC title after he failed register for the Sasol Rally of South Africa. 

The 1999 winner is not part of the 45 registered rally aces to take part in the event scheduled for April 11 – April 12.

Muhangi who retired from ARC Round 1 in the Bandama Rally of Cote d’Ivoire last month after blowing his engine joins compatriots Hajji Abdul Sempebwa and Shafik Ssemujju who are out of the event despite registering to compete in the ARC events. The latter two are yet to feature in any event.

2012 Africa champions Mohammad Essa of Zambia is amongst the top drivers in the event which also has Rwanda’s Giancarlo Davite and Kenya’s Chatthe Jaspreet who failed to complete the Bandama rally after he went off the road and damaged his EvoX. 

Winner of 2014 Bandama Rally Gary Chaynes from Ivory Coast who leads the ARC standings at the moment is also among the drivers ready to battle but compatriot Morifere Soumaoro who lies second on the ARC log is missing. 

Zambia’s Jassy Singh, the reigning ARC champion and son of legendary Muna Singh, will be the notable absentees in South Africa.

The event wstarts in Sabie on Friday morning and will finish in Nelspruit on Saturday afternoon.
