The Basketball National Teams resumed preparations for the FIBA Africa Zone V Championships on Monday. Following the postponing of the event that was earlier scheduled for June 16-21 to this month, the tournament preps were paused.
It was near-full house at Silverbacks’ second practice session on Tuesday evening as they prepare for the upcoming event that will take place in a couple of weeks (September 21-27 to be exact) here in Kampala.
The practice that took place at Bush Court in Kololo was attended by four guards and eight front court players.
The players in attendance were Jimmy Enabu (City Oilers) Jonah Otim (Ndejje Angels) Syrus Kiviiri (Falcons) Joseph Ikong (Power) Norman Blick (Power) Steven Omony (Falcons) Geoffrey Soro (Ndejje Angels) Henry Malinga (Warriors) Brian Sentongo (Ndejje Angels) Sam Gombya (KIU Titans) Samuel Kalwanyi (City Oilers) Ivan Lumanyika (UCU Canons)
Head coach Mandy Jurini was impressed with the energy but not with the number of shots taken. “I like the energy in practice” he remarked after the session. “Let’s us attempt more in game situations” he told his players.
The Women’s team practiced from Silver Springs Hotel in Bugolobi.
Both teams will have their third sessions at Gems International School in Butabika on Wednesday evening.
