Namuwongo Blazers completed a double against City Oilers after securing a well-deserved 82-74 victory in the National Basketball League encounter at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Friday.
The Blazers concluded the regular campaign on a high to cement their position at the top of the log, boasting 19 wins and just three losses in their 22 games played.
Innocent Ochera’s layup concluded the opening period as the Blazers opened up a nine-point (25-16) lead at the end of the quarter.
City Oilers put up a great fight, rotating the ball massively, but trailed by five points (42-47) going into the halftime break.
Three minutes into the third period, Fayed Bale tied the game 50-50 with back-to-back tripples as the City Oilers’ fans went on their feet in jubilation.
Benjamin Kawumi’s jumpshot at the end of the third quarter reduced the Oilers’ deficit to one point (59-60) going into the final period of the game.
With 1:23 minutes left on the clock, Tonny Drileba dropped a deep long shot beyond the arc to extend the Blazers’ lead to nine points (79-70).
Despite the strong fight from City Oilers, the Blazers secured an eight-point victory in front of their loud crowd.
Joel Lukoji (17 points), Anthony Chukwuba (14 points), Moses Mugisha (13 points) and Peter Obleng (11 points) led the Blazers’ scoring chart in double digits.
