Naguru claimed top honours of the first edition of the Uganda Rugby Union GIR Age Grade tournament at Makerere Impis Rugby Club Grounds on Saturday, after their enthralling displays that earned the side most points.

The Under-16 boys ran in 60 points in total against various opponents, to upset resilient Kyambogo that only managed 46 overall.

Naguru made up of ex-tag rugby players showcased brilliant rugby skills and impressive ball handling, beating Jinja Select 17-05, Whales Orcas 00-22, Kyambogo 05-14 and Ram Junior 7-10.

The side finished unbeaten in four encounters while runners up, Kyambogo lost once. Kyambogo edged Ram Juniors 12-07, Whales Orcas 10-05, Jinja Select 00-19 but lost to Naguru, the accolade winners, 05-14.

The competition was graced by a Confederation of Africa Rugby official, Jean Luc Barthes and Uganda Rugby Union President Andrew Owor.

The day’s event included Tag Rugby exhibition games amidst Boys and Girls games as Makerere Tag Rugby center and Entebbe Whales made select sides that played each other for the Tag rugby games.
