It’s a two-way tie on the leaderboard of the 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Ladies Open after the second round.
Kenya’s Mercy Nyachama returned the best score of round two to go joint top with day one leader Neema Olomi.
Nyachama played a round she described as “perfect” on the undulating par-71 course under sunny conditions. The Vetlab Golf Club member played a 4-over-75 for a gross total of 153 during the two rounds.
“Today’s round was perfect, I really enjoyed it. [The] first nine I played +1, which was good because yesterday I played +6, so that was a great improvement,” Nyachama, who started with a birdie, said of her round.
“Tomorrow I want to play as I did today, play the course as it is with no pressure,” she said, looking ahead to tomorrow’s final round.

Meanwhile, Olomi, who led on day one, played 9-over-80 on round two. Despite starting off the round with four pars, the Arusha Gymkhana Club golfer bogeyed the rest of the back nine, including a triple bogey on par-3 Hole 8.
“Today’s round was not so good but it wasn’t that bad either. I suffered on some holes but I’m alright,” Olomi admitted.
“I have planned for tomorrow so well. I will keep my head level so I can be the winner of this competition. I will try harder not to make the mistakes I made today,” she added.

The start to the round for Uganda’s Martha Babirye did not bode well. The two-time winner of the Ladies Open started off with a bogey and recorded a triple bogey on hole 2.
“Today I started so badly, I struggled a lot, and I couldn’t score. Number 2 really messed me up and I had a really rough day. It was a bit hot compared to yesterday,” said Babirye, who returned to the clubhouse with the scorecard reading 80.
With a gross total of 157, Babirye is four shots shy of Nyachama and Olomi but is optimistic ahead of the final round on Saturday.
“I’m within scores that are not really worrying and I’m still positive. I hope the weather is a bit okay and not so hot because this course is hilly and the heat makes it harder.”
