Overview:
For starters, AUUS is affiliated to the National Council of Sports (NCS) and the International University Sports Federation (FISU). AUUS is responsible for organizing university sports programs in Uganda for domestic, regional, continental and international championships.
The countdown to the elective assembly for the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) is on.
This assembly will take place on Friday, 26th September 2025 at the Uganda Christian University (UCU).
A number of candidates have been nominated for the various positions on the AUUS Executive Committee, in accordance with the AUUS constitution.
With the out-going president Peninah Kabenge Aligawesa not returning the post for presidency is up for grabs.
Two candidates George Wagoogo (Kyambogo University) and Dr. Agnes Baluka Massajja (Busitema University) are interested in the president’s seat according to a document released by Sumayah Namyalo, a member of the AUUS secretariat.



In the same vein; Martha Soigi (Kampala University) and Mustapha Nsubuga (Mountain of the Moon University) are the two candidates interested in the seat of the 1st vice president.
Nsubuga is also short-listed for the vice president (Technical) seat; alongside UCU’s Samuel Lukaire.

General Secretary:
The incumbent, Patrick Ssebuliba from Victoria University faces three other candidates in Dr Baluka, Hilary Godfrey Kimbugwe (Makerere University Business School) and David Busobozi (Uganda Martyrs’ University).

Brenda Ekone (University of Kisubi) is unopposed for the Assistant General Secretary seat, same as Makerere University’s Brian Miiro Nsubuga for treasurer.
Nsubuga will replace the long serving treasurer; Paul Mark Kayongo.
Male student representative:
Two candidates are short listed for the male student representative position; Sand Moses (Busitema university) and Ambrose Kalibbala (Mutesa 1 Royal University).

Regional representatives:
Jeska Annet Kabasindi (Kampala International University) and Hilary Kimbugwe (Makerere University Business School) are vying for the central region representatives’ slots.

Helon Haruna Kebba (Islamic University in Uganda) is unopposed for Eastern region.
The other unopposed candidates include Francis Opiyo from Gulu University for Northern region; Arthur Kamugisha (Bishop Stuart University) for Western region and Benson Kanyesigye from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) for the South-Western region.
The term of office will run for four years from 2025 to 2029.
