Winning the Nigerian Badminton International wasn’t a mean feat after all for Ugandan Edwin Ekiring.

The gold has lifted Ekiring 17 places on the African ranking to ninth 236 positions in the world to 309.
I never had the ranking bit in my mind when I was going to Nigeria but it feels great to have a Ugandan in the top ten on the continent
Ekiring told a local newspaper (Daily Monitor) on phone from his base in Holland.

Ekiring defeated Frenchman Arnaud Genin 3-1 (11-4, 11-7, 4-11, 11-9) to bounce back from a quarter finish in Mauritius- his last competition on the continent.

The former to seed on the continent managed to collect 2500 points taking his total points to 4180
